History:
  • 1970
    P&G's pharmaceutical business begins with specialty products group yielding products in United States such as Didronel for the treatment of Paget's disease.

  • 1982
    P&G acquires Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals. Provides innovative Research & Development and prescription products such as Macrodantin for treatment of urinary tract infections, and Dantrium for treatment of malignant hyperthermia.

  • 1980’s
    P&G expands R&D facilities and focuses research on three core areas: anti-infectives, bone metabolism and cardiac health. P&G Pharmaceuticals strengthens marketing presence in international markets.

  • Late 1980 - 90’s
    Completion of strategic international acquisitions of Nativelle (France), Rohm Pharma (Germany), and Smith, Kline and French brands (Italy.)

  • 1992
    P&G's pharmaceutical business officially named Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals

  • 1995
    Didrocal approved for osteoporosis in Canada

    Phase III trials of Azimilide (cardiac antiarrhythmic) were initiated.

  • 1997
    P&G Pharmaceuticals entered into major agreements with:
    HMR - an alliance to commercialize risedronate
    Regeneron - collaboration to discover and develop new products
    Watson Laboratories - partnership to develop new hormone replacement therapy products for women

  • 2000
    Actonel approved for osteoporosis in Canada

    Phase IIb trials of Intrinsa (transdermal testosterone) were intiated

  • 2002
    P&G Pharmaceuticals reaches $1Billion (US) in sales

    P&G Pharmaceuticals Canada reaches $120 million in sales
